Educational In-Home Services

Individualized support where everyday learning happens.

BLUINKWL provides 1:1 educational and behavioural support in the home environment, with goals selected around the learner’s needs, family priorities, communication, independence and daily life.

In-Home Educational Support

Skills that connect directly to daily life.

Our in-home service is designed to support learning in the child’s natural environment. Sessions may focus on educational, behavioural and functional goals that are meaningful to the learner and family.

Programming is individualized and guided by the child’s current abilities, needs, family priorities and clinical goals. The purpose is not to provide a one-size-fits-all lesson plan, but to build useful skills through structured teaching in real-life routines.

Areas may include

  • Functional communication
  • Following directions and attending
  • Daily routines and independence
  • Emotional and behavioural regulation
  • Self-help and life skills
  • Play, interaction and social development
  • School-readiness and learning-to-learn skills
  • Flexibility, transitions and tolerance
How We Teach

Structured, individualized and practical.

Educational in-home sessions can incorporate evidence-based ABA teaching strategies when appropriate to the learner’s plan and clinical supervision.

Strategies may include positive reinforcement, prompting and fading, task analysis, shaping, modeling, visual supports, repetition, functional communication teaching and data collection.

01

Start With the Learner

We look at strengths, challenges, interests, communication style and family priorities before selecting goals.

02

Teach in Real Routines

Home-based teaching can be embedded into routines such as getting ready, completing tasks, transitions, play and self-care.

03

Build Independence

Prompts and supports are adjusted over time so the learner can complete more steps independently.

04

Track Progress

Programming can be adjusted based on observation, family feedback and data from the learner’s sessions.

Important Service Distinction

In-home educational support and BJJ Movement-Based Therapy are different services.

Our educational and ABA/IBI services may be delivered in the home. Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Movement-Based Therapy is not an in-home service.

BJJ is delivered at the gym

The BJJ Movement-Based Therapy program requires an appropriate martial-arts environment with proper matting, space, equipment, safety procedures and supervision. For safety and liability requirements, BJJ-based therapeutic sessions are delivered only in the designated gym environment in South Oshawa.

We do not conduct BJJ grappling, drills or martial-arts movement therapy inside a client’s home.

Family-Centred Goals

Parents and caregivers are an important part of planning.

Family priorities help us understand which skills are most meaningful in daily life. Intake information, observation and ongoing communication help shape individualized goals and recommendations.

Examples of functional goals

  • Requesting help or a break
  • Completing multi-step routines
  • Waiting and tolerating delayed access
  • Transitioning between activities
  • Increasing independence with self-care
  • Participating in learning activities
  • Building appropriate coping strategies
