Powering progress through structured movement.
We integrate Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu movement with individualized teaching strategies to support physical development, emotional regulation, communication, confidence and independence.
Gym-Based 1:1 Sessions
Our BJJ Movement-Based Therapy program is delivered in an appropriate martial arts environment in South Oshawa. The starting point is the individual learner—not a traditional group class.
We can slow instructions down, repeat skills, use visual supports, provide appropriate prompting, reinforce progress, allow breaks when needed and gradually increase expectations based on readiness.
Structured movement • Individualized teachingPhysical and behavioural goals can work together.
Emotional & Behavioural
- Self-regulation and impulse control
- Confidence and self-esteem
- Coping with frustration and challenges
- Focus and attention
Physical & Motor
- Coordination and functional movement
- Balance and core stability
- Gross motor strength
- Body awareness and proprioception
The difference is in how we teach.
Some learners can jump directly into a group setting. Others need a different starting point to build foundational skills and confidence. ABA-based teaching strategies provide a framework for individualized instruction.
The martial art provides the movement. ABA helps guide how we teach the individual learner.
Strategies may include
- Positive and individualized reinforcement
- Prompting and fading
- Shaping and breaking skills into manageable steps
- Task analysis and repetition
- Modeling and visual supports
- Teaching functional communication
- Gradually increasing expectations using data
BJJ Movement-Based Therapy is gym-based only.
BLUINKWL’s BJJ Movement-Based Therapy is delivered in our designated martial-arts environment in South Oshawa. It is not provided as an in-home service.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu involves physical movement, partner work, controlled grappling positions, transitions and specialized instruction. The program therefore requires proper matting, sufficient training space, appropriate equipment, safety procedures and an environment that meets our operational and liability requirements.
Why the gym environment matters
- Purpose-built martial-arts matting
- Controlled and appropriate training space
- Safety procedures for BJJ movement and drills
- Access to program equipment and visual supports
- Appropriate supervision and session setup
- Compliance with program safety and liability requirements
For these reasons, BJJ-based therapeutic sessions cannot be conducted in the client’s home.
Families seeking home-based support can inquire about our Educational In-Home Services or ABA/IBI services.
Progress can look different for every learner.
